A secluded sandy bay beneath the cliffs of Jerbourg, reached by more than 270 steep steps and surrounded by dramatic south-coast scenery.

Petit Port is a secluded sandy bay set beneath the cliffs of the Jerbourg peninsula. It is reached from Route de Jerbourg by more than 270 steep steps, making the beach feel unusually remote despite being only a short distance from the road.
Sand is exposed as the tide falls, with rocks and boulders around parts of the upper shore and edges of the bay. The beach slopes gently into the water, providing a broad area of shallower water at low tide when conditions are calm.
There are no facilities at beach level, and the return means climbing the full flight of steep steps, so take drinking water and allow enough time and energy for the ascent. Jerbourg Kiosk and Hotel Jerbourg are a short walk from the top of the steps, while the nearest public toilets are across the road from Doyle Column. A small amount of parking is available near the access. The beach is not accessible to wheelchairs or pushchairs, and there is no road, slipway or level route down to the sand.
Petit Port and the surrounding cliffs require ongoing rock-safety and maintenance work, and the access has closed at times because of rockfall risk. Observe all signs and closures, keep away from the foot of the cliffs where possible, and check for local notices before travelling specifically to visit.
Petit Port changes considerably with the tide. A broad sandy beach is exposed around lower water, while the available dry sand reduces considerably as the tide rises. Around high water, particularly on larger spring tides, there may be very little room left on the beach. Lower and middle tide generally provide more beach space and a gentler entry into shallow water. The bay is enclosed by cliffs and rocks, and waves or swell can make conditions rougher than they first appear, particularly around the edges of the cove. Check the sea conditions and make sure your route back to the steps remains clear before settling on the lower beach. There is no lifeguard.
