A dramatic, secluded south-coast bay of sand and granite, closely associated with the French Impressionist painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir.

Moulin Huet lies beneath a wooded valley and the St Martin’s cliff paths, with granite outcrops dividing areas of shoreline and golden sand exposed at lower water. Pierre-Auguste Renoir spent just over a month in Guernsey in 1883 and worked on 15 paintings during his stay, most depicting Moulin Huet and its coastline.
The Renoir Tea Garden sits above the beach part-way down the valley. Public parking and toilets are at the top, so visitors should expect a steep walk down and a sustained climb back. The self-guided Renoir Walk starts at the car park above the bay, descends through the valley to the tea garden and beach, then climbs south towards the cliff path. Five specially commissioned steel frames mark viewpoints associated with Renoir’s paintings, each with a QR code linking to audio commentary.
The beach is reached on foot down a steep valley path, the return involves a sustained climb, and the wider cliff-path routes include steep and uneven sections. Public toilets are beside the car park above the bay, including a RADAR-key toilet with adaptations, but the presence of adapted facilities at the car park does not make the route to the natural beach wheelchair-accessible.
At lower water, more sand and rocky foreshore are exposed around the bay. As the tide rises, the sandy areas become smaller and some rocks and passages between sections of shore may become wet or submerged. Keep track of the returning water when exploring beyond the main sandy area. Swimming is possible when conditions are suitable, but entry and exit points change through the tide and the beach should not be assumed to be lifeguarded.
