A vast west-coast beach and Guernsey’s best-known surfing spot, popular for surfing, bodyboarding, swimming and long walks across the sand.

These predictions use St Peter Port, Guernsey’s standard reference port. Local timing and conditions at Vazon Bay can vary slightly with weather and coastal geography. Times are shown in local Guernsey time.
Vazon is a broad, open west-coast bay with a long sandy shoreline. It is Guernsey’s principal surfing beach, and Guernsey Surf School is based here. In calmer conditions the beach is also popular with swimmers, families and walkers.
The bay is exposed to Atlantic swell and can have larger waves than Guernsey’s more sheltered beaches. Swimmers should watch for surfers and bodyboarders, particularly within the designated surfing area marked by circular flag symbols on the sea wall. Vistas Beach Café and Crabby Jack’s are near the eastern end of the bay, while Richmond Beach Kiosk is towards the opposite end, and changing rooms are located near the main slip.
Surf conditions depend on swell, wind, tide and the changing shape of the seabed. A tide time alone cannot tell you whether the surf will be suitable. Beginners should use an established surf school, and all water users should remain alert to others sharing the bay. The presence of the surf school does not mean the beach or general swimming area is lifeguarded.
At low water, a vast area of sand is exposed and the sea retreats a considerable distance from the sea wall, so there is a longer walk to the water. At higher states of tide the water is much closer to the beach entrances, while the available area of sand becomes narrower. Conditions can change considerably as the tide moves.
